What is NextArt?
NextArt is a groundbreaking, first-of-its-kind event that will feature installations, performances, and panel discussions, nurturing emerging artists engaged in exploring the potential of digital technology by providing them with a unique venue, connecting them with like-minded creators, and exposing the community to the most inventive forms of art and entertainment in existence today.

NextArt is an event produced collaboratively by Florida Film Festival and the Department of Film and Digital Media Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Central Florida

NextArt Collaborators Speak:
Visions for NextArt

From the Florida Film Festival:
Genres and movements are the ever-changing markers of Art; however, the common ground of creative expression is one compulsion: a passionate vision. The medium chosen by a passionate visionary may be sticks and string, celluloid, oil, gestures, or ones-and-zeros. His urge to express and reach an audience is not in his medium. Rather his medium is his chosen language: the alphabet and the grammar of his vision. NextArt wishes to celebrate emerging innovative "grammar and alphabets" developed by current visionaries--with special emphasis on work that reflects blending media into new forms.

The Florida Film Festival, in collaboration with the University of Central Florida's Film and Digital Media Program, seeks to present the expressive potential of these new artistic visions in an atmosphere of "unpretentious revelry" that encourages collaboration, community, and the "aha!" that accompanies discovery. In doing so we wish to nurture emerging artists by providing them with a unique venue, connecting them to like-minded creators, and exposing the community to groundbreaking styles of art and entertainment.

From the University of Central Florida:
The Department of Film and Digital Media Program in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Central Florida is proud to co-sponsor NextArt as it embraces Dynamic Media. Dynamic media provides new domains for creative expression of community vision as well as new markets with worldwide impacts. In Dynamic Media, the user has a role to play in Internet, video, computer games, interactive television, cinema, theater, cell phones, theme parks, and location-based entertainment.

The University of Central Florida's Dynamic Media Initiative fosters research, learning, and creation of exciting new forms of interactive media. Supported by a powerful alliance of business, government, and academia, the university will be a significant force in shaping Florida's economy at the crossroads of entertainment and technology with new and expanded degree programs, faculty, resources, and partnerships.
